Likable characters...

Most anime I've come across suffer from chronic lack of likable characters, which bores me to why should I even continue watching the series past certain point

I hope you get my point. With dull leads & borderline obnoxious secondary characters, I find it difficult to cross pass 10 episodes of even mere 26 episodes.

Some classic shows like DBZ, YYH, Rurourin Kenshin, Hunter Hunter, Inuyasha etc have great host of likable characters. I'm lookin forward to anime as that. Thanks in advance

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Any genre's in particular or any excluded?

ERASED is pretty good I thought, I don't usually like 12 episode long series if they're not heavily action focused or a bit different like One Punch Man but it was interesting and the characters were pretty cool.
Even in just 12 episodes it's easy too root for them instead of be apathetic about the story.

For me anyway, I might have just been interested due to how the main character transforms as a person.

It's very very rare that a long-ish Shounen holds interest indeed sadly HxH is the only one that stands out to me(as an anime)
One Piece can be great too but it's really hard to dig in to it. The way Oda trickles in character information is masterful, the hype building is intense and few characters don't live up to it.

Has it's quirks as a series that many won't be able to look past of course but if you can actually get in to it, s***'s awesome. Still prefer HxH myself though.

That said the One Piece anime is...not the greatest. The pacing for the past like 100 episodes is God awful.

I rate Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail & AoT as disposable piece of works. They pretend to be "superior" while in fact symbolize everything wrong with Shounen & shamelessly takes pride with its stereoypical, cliched cast of characters

As I said, I want anime with a pool of likable characters, instead of just 1 or 2 main characters standing out for 200+ episodes

I think I've reached over-saturation point where none of recent anime/manga have "fresh" or likable characters

Like say, Killua, Netero, Hisoka, Zoldycks, Kurapika, Spider Troupe frm HxH

Or Alphonse, Bradley, Yoki, Armstrong, Roy Mustang, Pride, Hohenhiem frm FMAB

Or Sesshoumaru, Kagura, Hakudoshi, Kagome, Kikyo, Miroku etc frm Inuyasha

Kinda like that

I like Fairytale a lot and I think it really has countless likeable characters. it's not always about the same characters either. They involve many, as much as DBZ and other Anime do. Finding an anime with 200+ episodes is difficult in itself. Some of the ones you named that you liked are around 100.

I think their were still some older Anime people enjoyed because of the characters, but if you don't like the genre then you might not like it all. I'd suggest Cardcaptors, Zatch Bell or maybe even Gintama is funny. First two are really old but nevertheless offer likeable characters you might be looking for considering the Anime you've dismissed.

As an avid anime fan, I would recommend that you check out Black Lagoon or Death Note. If you enjoy YYH or Rurourin Kenshin, then check out them out.

I dunno abt Black Lagoon but DN? Really?

Out of 37 episodes, none of the characters made an impression except Light (well, he's the focus of the goddamn series after all). Guys like L, Near, Mello were walking tools to move the plot.

I'm askin for extensive likable characters. Misa is annoying biyotch. Characters like Matsuda, Yotsuba's Company, Near & Mello's troops are irrelevant, cardboard characters imo

It's kind of impossible to suggest because people clearly don't agree on what constitutes a cast of likeable characters. I mean, of the Anime you mentioned in your first post, I'd only say that Hunter x Hunter really has a good cast. The others mostly had secondary characters that I found to be mostly pretty dull and one note.

For what it's worth though, Fate/Zero has a pretty well developed cast.

That post about L hurt my soul :(
Sorry bout that. But there are reasons for that

I was not anime fan. Still isnt. But got this habit of double, sometimes triple-checking whatever products I'm about to purchase. With DN, I came across tons of glowing reviews for the series (ANN, THEM Anime, IMDB, various blogs) that had 1 similarity in common. L glorification

With explosive hype meter surrounding this L character, I jumped into the series & you know. While the anime lived-up to its hype, L didnt.

Maybe it got to do with MadHouse's weak presentation. Or general lack of actions (which were abundant with Near & Mello). Or its somber tone for most part. Or the whole Light+L combo during Yotsuba Arc left a bad after taste. Or L's ultimate defeat which amounted to nothingness after 20+ episodes of mindgames. Dafuq? U kiddin me?

As you can see, many factors didnt resonate with L for me. Suprisingly, it did with Near.

My 2 cents

The only thing which I can think of right now similar to that of YYH, DBZ, HxH etc is Flame of Recca. Maybe, you should give that a try since you liked YYH/DBZ/HxH etc. Now, if you want an anime with a really good set of solid characters then you should watch Rainbow Nisha Rokubou No Shichinin. It has a really good set of solid characters and the story is also pretty solid. But, this is not like DBZ/HxH/YYH or like other animes mentioned in the above posts. Since, this anime is intended for a much mature audience. And, it's also not an action oriented/shounen type of anime. The emphasis of the series is about a group of characters and their interactions amongs themselves and the environment around them.

The other anime that I would suggest is .hack//sign. Again, this has a really good set of characters and as an highly original interesting Plot. This anime is also not an action oriented anime. Rather, this one relies heavily on dialogs and the interactions among the characters.

@Wong Lee

I dont usually bother about genre, demographic audience or even its plot to be frank. I believe anime is a medium of entertainment which should be backed by solid cast of characters.

Regardless of its tone or genre, if an anime has extensive cast of likable characters with interesting personalities as I've mentioned in my previous posts, then the show naturally becomes addictive. In short, enjoyable.

I'll consider your options
